Akon Accused of Pulling Out, Gives Birth to Lawsuit (tmz)

akon

Akon backed out of a Belgium concert and left the promoter high and dry to the tune of a quarter of a million dollars … this according to a lawsuit filed against the hip-hop superstar.

In the documents, the promoter — Lofraco Belgium — claims Akon and his booking agents agreed to do a show in Belgium in October of 2009 that would also feature Kardinal Offishalll and Colby O’Donis … both performers on Akon’s label Konvict Muzik.

According to the lawsuit — filed in the Supreme Court of the State of NY — Lofraco Belgium paid Akon’s booking agents $125,000 for the gig, but just 8 days before the show the promoter was told Akon had to pull out because of “scheduling conflicts.”

The suit claims breach of contract, fraud and concealment — and the plaintiff wants $250,000 in expenses back and punitive damages in the multi-millions.

Akon’s rep hasn’t gotten back to us yet.

The 20-year-old former fiance of Bristol Palin has certainly been on a roller coaster the past few months. Engaged to Bristol in July and broken up in August!

Who Is Brittani Senser? We’ve Got Answers (celeb buzz)

britnlevi

Just in case you were wondering about the identity of Levi Johnston’s Teen Choice Awards date, it was Brittani Senser, a 24-year-old aspiring singer who may be on the verge of making a digital splash after recruiting the Alaskan casanova to appear in her new music video.

Though Brittani wrote on her Facebook page that she just met Levi on Saturday, bloggers immediately began wondering if the two were an item. So, we did a little digging to find out just who Levi’s new gal pal is, and whether or not she’s about to become a superstar.

Who is Brittani? A self-described “hip pop princess” (according to her MySpace page,) Brittani hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she is a member of Twin Cities royalty (assuming it exists.) Her dad, Joe Senser, played for the Minnesota Vikings in the 1980s and now owns a chainlet of sports bars, appropriately named Joe Senser’s.

Can she sing? Brittani boasts a pretty impressive R&B-ready voice on “Cupid,” the debut single from her upcoming album, “After Love.” After getting her start as a member of a hometown girl group, MN Finest, she’s trying her luck as a solo artist signed by the MN Finest label, which has crowned her the “the voice of a new generation.”

Check out Brittani’s “Cupid” video here:

What are her current claims to fame? Like every aspiring singer/actress out there, Brittani has some reality show cred, in her case as a contender on MTV’s Making The Band 3. “I got to meet P. Diddy, and to have the opportunity reignited a fire in me,” Senser told The Associated Press. She also hit the Los Angeles club circuit recently, performing with Kim Kardashian’s ex and Brandy Norwood’s brother, Ray J. And her spokeswoman said Brittani will belt out the National Anthem on Sept. 26 at a Detroit Tigers-Chicago White Sox game. Perhaps most noteworthy of all, she is expected to film a a music video with Levi Johnston this month. Speaking of…

What’s up with Brittani and Levi? She declares him a “super nice kid” via Facebook and he claims they’re “just friends” in this video from the Teen Choice Awards blue carpet, but the non-couple whose names both end in “i” will soon at least act like they’re in love. Citing the script for Brittani’s “After Love” video, The Hollywood Gossip said “Levi strokes Brittani’s hair, they intertwine fingers, they laugh, she kisses his shoulder, he runs his hand gently down her back.” The video is bound to get a few clicks, as the plot is said to feature Levi being persecuted by his girlfriend Brittani’s overbearing mom. Sound familiar?

What are Brittani’s hopes and dreams? They’re pretty lofty. She cites Whitney Houston as her “idol” and aspires to pull a Beyonce some day, telling the AP: “I would love to have a career like that, love to get into acting.”

What’s your first impression of Brittani Senser? Let us hear in the comments. For more photos of Levi and Brittani and the rest of the Teen Choice Awards carpet-walkers, click here.

Bristol Palin’s ex-fiance free to steam up video with Minnesota singer (star tribune)

brittanisenser

There’s no reason for the heat to be set on low when Levi Johnston is scheduled to shoot a video in LA next week with Minnesota singer/songwriter Brittani Senser.

Now that Johnston doesn’t have to worry about making his fiancee, Bristol Palin, jealous, Senser’s “After Love” video should be plenty hot.

“We think so. Yeah, it’s definitely picking up steam. It’s amazing,” said Michael (Heat) Williams, the senior veep at Bungalo Records told me when reached in LA Wednesday.

Williams said his team had every confidence that Johnston was going to try to bring it, even before news broke that the second Johnston-Palin engagement was kaput.

Palin, the daughter of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, called off the engagement. That happened after Johnston told the teenage mother of their baby, Tripp, that he may have fathered another baby with another teenage girl.

“The final straw was him flying to Hollywood for what he told me was to see some hunting show, but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family,” Palin told People magazine during a tearful phone call, during which she declared, “It’s over” and said “I got played” because Johnston likes the limelight.

The story line of “After Love” is about a man whose romance is thwarted by his girlfriend’s mom. While that sounds like the same old song to Palin, it’s not actually about her, as you’ll hear from Williams in my Thursday column.

C.J. is at 612.332.TIPS or cj@startribune.com. E-mailers, please state a subject — “Hello” doesn’t count. Attachments are not opened, so don’t even try. More of her attitude can be seen on FOX 9 Thursday mornings.

Shot from top of Vulcan Monument may be longest ever made

basketball-longshot

An hour and a half into their attempt to hit the longest trick shot they’ve ever tried, members of the Alabama-based Legendary Shots wondered if they might have dreamed up an idea too difficult to pull off.

Time after time, they shuttled basketballs by elevator to 17-year-old Evan Sellers on a 134-foot-high platform near the top of Birmingham’s famed Vulcan monument. And time after time, the Pinson Valley High School quarterback launched shots that clanged off the rim or narrowly missed the basket set up on the ground below.

Reports: Brett Favre plans to retire (espn) UPDATE: Favre Un-Retires!

brett-retire

MANKATO, Minn. — Brett Favre’s stint with the Minnesota Vikings appears to be over after a single season.

Favre has informed the Vikings he will not return to Minnesota this fall, according to multiple reports.

Favre has sent text messages to teammates saying, “This is it,” league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Neither Favre nor the Vikings has confirmed the news, but a statement is expected later Tuesday, the sources said.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Tuesday that he has talked to Favre in the last 24 hours but was unaware of the reports of Favre’s apparent decision to retire.

The Associated Press, citing an unnamed source, reported that the 40-year-old Favre called Childress to say his injured ankle is not responding as well to surgery and rehabilitation as he had hoped.

With Favre, of course, nothing is ever necessarily final after 19 NFL seasons. He told the Vikings last year he wouldn’t play, but changed his mind and joined them immediately after they broke training camp. Camp this year ends on Aug. 12.

Favre has waffled on retiring every summer since 2006. It led to an ugly parting with the Packers that got him traded from Green Bay to the Jets in 2008. After a so-so season in New York, he announced his retirement in early 2009 for the second time, then reconsidered and signed with the Vikings.

He had one of his best seasons last year, with career bests in completion percentage (68.4), quarterback rating (107.2) and fewest interceptions (7), while throwing for 33 TDs and 4,202 yards to lead the Vikings to an NFC North title. He hurt his left ankle in the NFC Championship Game loss to the New Orleans Saints and had arthroscopic surgery in May.
Favre Retiring Again?
If Brett Favre does retire, he will leave the NFL holding several passing records and three NFL MVP awards. The 11-time Pro Bowler also has 18 straight 3,000-yard seasons and 12 consecutive years of 20 or more TD passes.
Favre was under contract for $13 million this season, but only if he plays.

If Favre doesn’t return, the Vikings’ starting quarterback job likely will be decided in a training camp battle between Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels.

The 27-year-old Jackson, drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft, has a 77.9 quarterback rating and has 21 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, passing for 3,643 yards in 33 career games.

The 32-year-old Rosenfels, acquired by the Vikings last year in a trade with the Houston Texans, has a career rating of 81.2. In 32 games, he has 30 touchdowns and 29 interceptions and has passed for 4,156 yards.

The Vikings also drafted quarterback Joe Webb in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL draft.

Nearly everyone had assumed Favre would return and he did nothing to discourage that. He threw passes for a second straight summer with high school students in Hattiesburg, Miss., joked about playing until he’s 50 and said playing another year wouldn’t worsen his already-damaged ankle.

Childress shrugged off all the questions and admitted he didn’t know whether Favre would really come back. The Vikings didn’t pursude a trade for Donovan McNabb and declined to select a quarterback of the future in the draft.

Still, Favre took a beating in the loss to the Saints and said afterward that he would not take long to make a decision on returning for the second year of his contract. As the months ticked by, Favre posted a statement on his website reminding everyone that his ankle problems didn’t mean his career was over.

If Favre decides to actually retire for good — it will end one of the most storied careers in NFL history. A three-time MVP, he holds every major NFL career passing record.
